10 Simple Ways to Reduce Puffiness

During the New Year holidays we rarely stick to our usual routine. Most of the time it leads to increased puffiness, and getting rid of it is not always easy.

According to Synclite’s cosmetic specialists, there are several simple but effective habits that can help.

1. Do lymphatic drainage facial massage

It helps improve lymph flow and overall fluid circulation, which reduces puffiness and speeds up the removal of toxins. You can visit a professional, but regular self-massage with a gua sha tool made from natural materials—jade, rose quartz, or obsidian—can also be very effective. Ideally, the tool should have a heart-shaped contour. For a gentler effect, hold it at a 15–45° angle and work along lymphatic pathways: from the center of the forehead to the temples, from the nose to the cheeks, from the chin toward the ears.

2. Use an at-home beauty device

Before the holidays there is rarely enough time to see a cosmetologist, and during the winter break most of us want to stay cozy at home. In both cases, modern devices with microcurrents, RF and EMS functions, and LED therapy can be extremely helpful. Even a short 10-minute session can noticeably improve facial contours.

3. Try cryotherapy

This method uses cold exposure to reduce inflammation and swelling. It is especially useful for speeding up recovery after intense physical activity—for example, if you enjoy skiing.

4. Sleep with your head slightly elevated.

Using an extra pillow helps prevent fluid from accumulating in the face and neck during the night.

5. Try a low-salt diet

Reducing salt intake is a great way to combat puffiness, as salt is known to cause fluid retention.

6. Use drainage face masks

These masks often include ingredients such as horse chestnut extract, green tea, caffeine, bioflavonoids, peptides, vitamin C, and niacinamide. They help reduce puffiness, strengthen blood vessels, and improve the appearance of couperose.

7. Drink herbal infusions and fresh juices

Parsley extract and green tea have strong drainage properties. Celery juice is also a classic choice that works well.

8. Keep your skin properly hydrated

Dehydrated skin is more prone to swelling because it tries to hold onto water. Maintaining consistent hydration helps balance fluid levels.

9. Use cooling skincare products

Gels and creams with menthol or camphor derivatives soothe the skin and help reduce pastiness by improving microcirculation and lymphatic flow.

10. Take baths with sea salt and baking soda

Sea salt stimulates blood circulation and helps deliver nutrients to the skin, speeding up regeneration. Baking soda also improves circulation and promotes the elimination of excess fluid.
